Re: SRM Install with Multiple VCs at Site

Ken,

Thanks for responding, I was really hoping you would.

So I am crystal clear here.  Every VC needs its own SRM Instance.  I have two vcenters at the primary/protect site, I need two SRM Instances/Servers correct? And of course the duplication on the other side at the DR Site.

Thanks,

Boston Tech Guy

This looks like the pop-up menu for the Datacenter, not the one for the Cluster, which should be directly below the Datacenter in the "Hosts and Clusters" view.

how to get rid of these vCenter server "errors" in vCOPs??

$

Trialing vCOPs, just installed it today...

Getting these errors about our vCenter server:

vCenter Inventory Service - Unable to retrieve health data from https://vc5.essexarc.local:10443/secure/health

License Services -

Threshold Usage Tracking service - Cannot obtain assigned licenses from vCenter Server

Capacity Usage Tracking service - Cannot obtain assigned licenses from vCenter Server

Assignments Feeding service - Cannot store license assignments for VRAM usage to vCenter Server query service

VMware vSphere Profile-driven Storage Service - Unable to retrieve health data from http://localhost/sps/health.xml

We don't use profile-driven storage stuff.

This error occurs even after giong into vCenter server and *starting* the Inventory service...I don't know why it does not properly start after server reboot...

Any help toward fixing things would be a big help.

Thank you, Tom

Later: Starting the inventory service made a difference though unfortunately my check services script does not always catch when this service is not running. I disabled the profile-driven storage service and will check again in awhile, maybe these things take care of themselves????

Hi Darius

Well, you're completely right.. Centos 6.4 installs ..... but the hard disk won't boot ! and I understand more about EFI now - so thanks !!

Back to my distro, it's a 6.1 variant and doesn't have the EFI installer so it's a non-starter.

The question still remains - how to get the PCI passed through hard disk to boot.... or do I need a VMDK boot device?

thanks

aye, but what's the plural of plural ?

Hey,

We are in the design faze of a vsphere 5.1 implementation. The specific question that I have is should I put the Host vmotion traffic on my core flat network or on the Iscsi network?

Thanks,

Rob

Hi,

I need to know how works the DatabaseLoader.

I know that I can configure a DatabaseLoader in a Region by a xml files in this way

        <cache-loader>

        <class-name>com.company.data.DatabaseLoader</class-name>

        <parameter name="URL">

        <string>jdbc:cloudscape:rmi:MyData</string>

        </parameter>

        </cache-loader>

But I don´t know how works DatabaseLoader, how work this in my JDBC connection ?

Do I have to implement a DatabaseLoader ?

Vmotion and NTP drift

$

Hello; Long time lurker here and first time posting.

I have a couple of clusters that are beefy 128GB of ram each 16+ cores per host and 3 servers per cluster and a few different clusters in different environments. All running off 10G fiber to a V7000 SAN appliance.

Now I built these clusters a few months back. So far its been fairly painless process. Have a few hard hitting vm's on them with way more to come.

When I move VM's from host to host my servers are running into NTP drift issues, some nearly 5 seconds. This is on esx5.1 on IBM x series servers. These servers are RHEL/centos 6.3. The guest os's are syncing to a local NTP source not the web.

No matter how I search the only mention I see about NTP drift are from 2004 for esx 3.x if im not mistaken. Anyone encountered this? Anyone have advice? To be fair I do not have vmware tools on the hosts as I really don't see much benefit to them.

Thank you.

-Bruno

Thanks this is very detailed.

The same exact thing happened to me, When renamed the SSl certficate folder and continued with the deployment, it failed while upgrading the database. I will try the above approach and will let you know, A Quick question. Was it required for you to reconnect the hosts after the deployment? I read somewhere the password used to connect to the host is encrypted in the SSl certificate.

Welcome to the Community - First off best practice is to have the VMs get their time from the ESXi hosts and the host point to a commone NTP source - Do you have your ESXi hosts using the same NTP servers as your VMs?

NFS Shares no longer work in VMware after Firmware upgrade

$

I have also posted this question in the EMC/Iomega User group.  I am hoping between the two groups I will be able to figure out what is going on.

I have a single VMware ESXi 5.0 host.  I also have an EMC px4-300r StorCenter.  I have recently upgraded this to the most recent firmware version 4.0.2.9960.

I was able to re-attache each of the iSCSI LUN to my VMware environment, however the NFS share no longer work. When I try to connect I get an error message.

"NFS mount 192.168.1.99:/nfs/test failed: The NFS server does not support MOUNT version 3 over TCP."

This was working before the firmware upgrade.   What steps can I use to troubleshoot this issue?

Thanks

Deleting OrgVDC Network on VCD via PowerCLI

Hi Folks,

I'm having some issues when executing some script in PowerCLI hitting Vcloud Director.

The overall script, pretty much "strikes out" an organization (including vCenter DPG's), but I'm getting stuck on an error it throws when collecting OrgNetworks data for removal.

The Specific Line is:

Get-OrgNetwork -Org $ORG | Remove-OrgNetwork

I have also tried:

Get-OrgNetwork -Org $ORG | foreach-object {Remove-OrgNetwork $_}

but no success...

the error I detect here is a variable casting error... perhaps it is a PowerCLI bug?

Remove-OrgNetwork : 7/10/2013 5:25:11 PMRemove-OrgNetwork    Unable to cast object of type 'VMware.VimAutomation.Cloud.Views.

OrgVdcNetwork' to type 'VMware.VimAutomation.Cloud.Views.OrgNetwork'.

At line:36 char:45

+ Get-OrgNetwork -Org $ORG | Remove-OrgNetwork <<<<

+ CategoryInfo      : NotSpecified: (:) [Remove-OrgNetwork], CIException
+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : CloudImpl_OrganizationNetworkServiceImpl_DeleteOrgNetwork_CIError,VMware.VimAutomation.Cloud.Commands.

   Cmdlets.RemoveOrgNetwork

As you may see it is expecting a certain type of object but receives another one. However the CmdLet is of the same kind and even from the same collection. (Vmware.Vimautomation.Cloud)

Any thoughts?

Many thanks,

Alejandro.

Merhaba;

Welcome to the Community - Ideally vmotion traffic should be on its own isolated network - who many physical NICs do you have in you ESXi host?

Re: Security Server 2 NIC's

Connecting through the view client from home works but trying on my outside secondary ISP in the office does not. It did not work with an ATT network at a convention I attended but it does work with CenturyLink. I can't imagine any ISP blocking something like that so I can go ahead and rule that out. Everything that I have managed to read has either leaned toward DNS or routing problems, the only issue is they are not specific as to where they apply these changes.

I have started to create a new security server with just one NIC as a DMZ public IP and may try to start from scratch.

Since we don't have a cluster setup, it couldn't be a cluster setting causing this issue, correct?
