I am using an external vRO 7.1  with my vRA 7.1 system.

I imported this package and the instructions called for running "Install custom hostname" workflow, which fails with the following error:

Hi,

Version of "Import a certificate from URL with certificate alias" workflow is 1.0.3.

Attached screen shot for the same.

And I did fresh deployment of VRO 7.1.0.

Re: Deploying a Template from CSV File With Other Settings

After the instructions from  New-VM cmdlet is passed to the vSphere server, this server will take some time to clone the new VM from the template.

You should be able to determine the duration of this actions from the Task and Events page.

Waiting for 4 minutes is indeed 'sleep 240'.

Can you add some debugging (Write-Host) before and after the sleep line, just to verify that the completion of the cloning process is completed within those 4 minutes?

You can also add a Get-VM to check the status of the newly created VM, before you do the Set-VM

But is the error appearing for the New-VM or the Set-VM cmdlet?

If it is the New-VM cmdlet, one fo the ESXi nodes might not be in the correct state.

Are all ESXi nodes shoing as Connected when you do a Get-VMHost?

You would first need to "get" the VM ebfore chekcing the powerstate, and then power on the ones that aren't.

Something like this

Get-VM*DC0*|Where-Object {$_.powerstate -eq‘PoweredOff’} |Start-VM|Wait-Tools

v12 workstation crashes on latest Win10 fast ring builds

$

Workstation 12.1.1, 12.5.0, and 12.5.2

I upgraded to build 14986 of the latest Win10.  After rebooting for upgrade, system would BSOD after Win10 was sitting at login screen.  It would either happen when I typed in the password in or shortly thereafter.  Letting the system sit there for a while without typing into the login box would not produce a BSOD.

The BSODs I would get indicated crashes in all sorts of different components with different codes and did not point to one component in particular.  Very random.

Could not get past the login screen, so was looking for a quick and dirty solution.

After reading that this is a problem in VirtualBox and they solved it by adjusting video card settings, and taking into account that these latest "creator" builds from Microsoft are supposed to focus on 3D, I took a stab and went to the preferences panel for the VM and turned off "Accelerate 3D graphics".  That did the trick.

Reading through other forums, this problem may also exist in earlier builds such as 14931.

Hopefully this info will be useful to others with this problem, and the Workstation developers.

BTW, I had this happen on two different computers with two different Win10 VM installs, using Workstation 12.1.1, 12.5.0, and 12.5.2.  Both computers were running v1607 of Win10.

Yosemite Guest OS on Sierra Host OS - possible?

$

Hi

My office's 5 ancient 2009 spec iMacs are on their last legs and I am going to have to replace them in early 2017 with the new models. I know that these latest iMacs cannot run any OS older than they ship with - which rules out downgrading - but does that apply to a Yosemite VM too?

I have some plugins that won't load into Sierra based installations (have tried on a non critical machine here) and there is no upgrade path due to the version we are running so I'd have to stump for a full copy on each machine that I run here - mucho expensive!

Would a Sierra host OS run a Yosemite OS guest in Fusion 7.5 Pro?

Many thanks

Hello,

Running an earlier OS X version like Yosemite as a guest OS within VMware Fusion on a host that runs macOS is one of the normal use cases and does work pretty well.

You didn't mention what type of software the plugins are for. There's a few use cases that a virtual OS X is not so great and it originates in there not being 3D support on OS X / macOS guest OS's. So if you are depending on specific features there then it might not work.

Hi Jeff,

so you should check the status of your deployment, is it stopped?

The statement from the documentation is stating that during the restart operation of Nova, you will not be able to interact with the service  (ex. launch new instances, etc...) but existing VMs are not affected by this operation.

Hope this helps!
