UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY error

Went to log into a clients NSX Manager today to start Micro-Seg, and it had an "Unexpected Inconsistency: run fsck Manually" error!  That doesn't sound good.  I have found a solution on other blogs about boot the NSX Manager to an UBUNTU iso, and cleaning up the filesystem using the SUDO....command.

I have created a ticket with tech support about this.

I wanted to get your thoughts as well.  Any special tricks out there?

AND NO!  There are no backups!!!  I tried but they didn't want to create a backup solution at that time.  Hopefully they will now.

Thanks for your help!

Re: Mouse not working - vsphere 6.5 WEB CONSOLE and REMOTE CONSOLE using web browser via RDP/MSTSC session - Stop the madness

ADDING a USB contoller is the best answer I have tried.

EDIT your VM Hardware settings and add a USB controller. You'll note that THERE ISN'T ONE in the default VM configuration.

This gave me a chunky mouse and wacky keyboard but ultimately enough control to get vmware tools installed and I was able to move on pretty typical of previous ESXi versions.

(Note: previous versions of ESXi sold me and my company on VMware products. A situation in peril as we are held hostage by the transition choices for ESXi6 and beyond. But we still love ESXi.)

Between the issue, troubleshooting and adding this comment I lost near about an hour from my busy schedule.

This is a failure of quality control on VMware's part; a recurring theme with the recent bail from the thick client. BUT I also acknowledge there might be a more technical decision at play here.

In a perfect world ESXi 6.5 would offer a minimal Thick client, a 'fully developed' HTML5 web client and the Shockwave Flash client retired to bathroom duty.

I am primarily a Linux-based user and most of my MS OSes used for ESXi management are remotely managed, so I expect some flukes.

Re: ESXi 6.5 connectivity issue on PowerEdge R430

Has anyone tried the 4.1.3.0 driver, ESXi650-201712407-BG? https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2151313

For what it's worth, I've got two hosts (DL380p Gen8) on the 4.1.0.0 driver, and they haven't had any issues with the ntg3 driver.

Re: DRS/anti-affinity rules Creation

Just temporarily remove the VM in the anti-affinity rule from the host you want to put in maintenance mode. After it's done, put the VM back in the list.

Re: vMotion not showing available hosts

We just added a new 6.5 host and ran into this and I found this -> VMware Knowledge Base

EVC mode mismatch causes virtual machine migration issues (2014835)

The VM's can have a different EVC Mode than the host they are running on.  Don't know how it would have happened but there is a solution in the KB article.

I had several vm's running on a EVC mode older then any of our current CPU's.  Any of those VM's with the older EVC modes would not see the new host. The really weird thing is that the host we just add was the exact same cpu as 2 hosts we upgraded 6 months ago, and the VM's with the old EVC mode can see those just fine.   Only difference is the new server was not upgraded from previous release but a fresh install of ESXi 6.5

Hope this helps.

Re: Site A cannot see Site B but Site B can see Site A and B in ELM

So we were able to resolve this and it was pretty easy...well maybe not!

I got tech support on the call and about an hour and 15 minutes, and we couldn't get the VCSA's to sync.  we checked the certs, checked time sync, etc...

The tech support guy brought in a top level technician and this is what he did.

service-control --stop vsphere-client

cd /usr/lib/vmware-vsphere-client/

ls -ltrh

cd server/

ls

mv work work_old

service-control --start vsphere-client

Not sure what it did, but it changed the work folder to work_old.  When the service was started again, whatever feature the "work" folder is a part of, created the work folder all over again.

Hope this helps anyone.

Re: MS Visio Pro 2013 AppStack

Is Microsoft Office installed on the packaging machine prior to starting the provisioning? I installed office on my packaging machine before starting the provisioning process, and then created the appstack and installed Visio. Deployed with no issues.

Blue screen serving files shared via Fusion in Apache under Windows 10

Hello all,

I ran into an unusual issue with VMWare Fusion 10.1.1, running Windows 10 1709 under macOS Sierra 10.12.6.

I am running Apache 2.2.34 on the Windows VM. I have some static files (the front-end of the app) I want to edit on the Mac side and have served through Windows. I shared the directory containing the files via the Fusion GUI, then created a symlink to it in my Apache htdocs directory:

mklink /D "c:\path-to-apache\htdocs\webapps" "\\vmware-host\Shared Folders\webapps"

This works! However, occasionally upon loading the app in the browser the VM will crash with a blue screen. The message varies, but usually it's PFN_LIST_CORRUPT. It crashes approximately every 10-30 times the files are requested.

Removing the symlink fixes the problem. I can work around it by sharing the files in Windows and mounting the share in Finder, but the symlink is more reliable. I reinstalled Fusion and Windows, and that didn't fix it. Does anyone have insight into what's happening?

Thank you,

Eric

Re: NO Valid Deploy VMs Passed

That indicates that the Deploy/DeployVMinfo field is not entered correctly in the VMmark3.properties file.  Can you check that or post that file?

Re: vSphere Distributed Switch VLAN trunked status

I ran into this today along with an MTU message. I went to the list of hosts assigned to the port group causing the problem and found that the ONLY GREEN ONE was the issue in that it had a 2-port card down. After putting it in MM and rebooting it, the alerts on all the other hosts cleared immediately. Hope that helps.

K8s for VIO - cluster creation

The pages covering creating an OpenStack Provider and a cluster are not clear what the relationship is between adding users and groups to a cluster vs. project members, nor what the provider user's role should be when adding the Provider.   Should the Provider user be admin or can they be _member_?  Do cluster users need to be added to the Provider project? What roles must they be when they are added?  What is the space below the user and group boxes to add other users/groups? What are the requirements to use that field? What is the delimiter between them?

Re: Should the device write cache (hdd or ssd) be enabled or disabled for vsan usage?

Hello vpradeep01,

Please refrain from what most would consider 'point-begging' as this violates Communities Code of Conduct:

"Those who answer questions should not then ask for their answer to be marked "Helpful" or "Correct" in an effort to gain more points. This points award should be objectively given by the person who posed the question, or an outside user who found the information beneficial."

VMware Community Code of Conduct

Sure though, it would be nice if there was more Community awareness/engagement and people were more aware of the purpose of marking things as correct and/or helpful.

Create AppStack

Can I get some information on how to create a Visio 2013 AppStack.  Any direction with this, would be appreciated.

Re: Fusion 10.0.1 & Windows 10 Fall Creators Update

Hi ssc127,

Assuming you are on Fusion 8 (which is End Of Life by now) then the answer is the reply just above yours.

Install VMware Tools 10.2 manually.

Re: High Sierra and Fusion "stuck" keys

Hey guys, so sorry you're hitting this problem!

Can someone who is hitting this problem try checking/unchecking the VMware Fusion > Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Mac Host Shortcuts > Enable Mac OS Host Keyboard Shortcuts checkbox and see if that makes this any better or worse? This checkbox is checked by default, so my assumption is that most people on this thread will have this box checked already. Unchecking this may help alleviate this problem temporarily until we can get the problem fixed.

If people could try this and see if it helps, I'd appreciate it. So I guess my questions for those hitting this problem are:

1) Do you have the VMware Fusion > Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Mac Host Shortcuts > Enable Mac OS Host Keyboard Shortcuts checkbox checked when you are hitting this problem?

2) If so, does unchecking this checkbox help?

3) If not, does checking this checkbox help?

Hm, also, what Fusion view mode are people using when they see this? Single Window, Fullscreen, or Unity?

And, just to clarify... is this happening in combination with Cmd+Tabbing in and out of the VM, or ungrabbing or switching between applications in the macOS host at all? Or should I be able to reproduce this by just opening a Win10 VM in single window mode, say, open Notepad, and type, occasionally holding shift and control occasionally and pressing other normal keys, without losing focus from the Win10 VM?

Thanks!

Re: fusion 10.1.1 Win7 X64 does not recognize USB Hardware Key License

Sorry, I meant does it show up as a USB device in the Fusion settings bar?  You may have to manually connect it.
